LowComDom Retires Da Joke List
June 16, 2007 - Alviso, California
LowComDom Performances, a leader in humor on the internet, today announced that it was retiring Da Joke List, one of the internet's largest mailing lists of humor after 15 years of continual service. Da Joke List will send its last joke on July 31, 2007. LowComDom will replace the Da Joke List with Da Joke RSS.
"Spammers have ruined email for the rest of us," said Dexter P. Lampshade, LowComDom Director of Snack Food & Action Figures. "The wide-spread use of black lists, and 'smart' mail filters which catch a lot of false positives, along with what in today's world are arcane commands one sends to listbots, make mailing lists difficult for the subscribers, and problematic that the email will be delivered. RSS steps around the problems of email lists."
Da Joke RSS is now available at http://www.lowcomdom.com/joke/index.xml. Those wishing to receive jokes via the RSS feed will need to copy the URL into an RSS program or use an aggregator such as MyYahoo.
RSS was created by Ramanathan V. Guha of Netscape in March 1999. A full description of the technology is available from this Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format).
BACKGROUND
Da Joke List was created in 1992 by Fred Barling, a Sillycon Valley software geek while working at Adobe Systems, Inc. The list became internationally distributed in 1994, and was acquired by LowComDom in 1995. Barling became LowComDom's Senior Vice President - Content & Sprocket Holes.
LowComDom was founded in 1985 by Biff Pondwater, who found a bag of money behind a restaurant in San Francisco's "Little Italy" and staged his first performance. The rightful owners of the money sued Pondwater and settled out of court, agreeing to accept two of Pondwater's fingers in exchange for the cash. Pondwater went on to become a genius of Octal Mathematics.
LowComDom, Da Joke List, and Da Joke RSS are trademarks of LowComDom Performances.
