LowComDom announces World Wide Wackiness
January 1, 1996 - Alviso California
LowComDom Performances today unveiled its site on the World Wide Web. The announcement was made by LowComDom Founder and President Biff Pondwater. Called LowComDom World Wide Wackiness, the Web site will become the performance art company's main canvas in 1996.
"Virtually nothing on World Wide Wackiness is what it seems. Everything is a spoof of what it claims to be," said Fred Barling, LowComDom's Vice President in Charge of Research & Silliness. The site can be accessed at www.lowcomdom.com. The current bill of fare includes Mojo-Cam, a system of tracking a cat through a house in nearby Santa Clara, Calif., and the LowComDom Seal of Approval, which was awarded to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream of Vermont.
The site also introduces the visitor to Da Joke List, LowComDom's daily mailing of humor to a list of subscribers via e-mail. Da Joke List was started by Barling before joining LowComDom. With this list, LowComDom began reaching an international audience.
"The big project for '96 is the dictionary," said Pondwater. "The English language is nuts and our re-write of the dictionary will prove it. It's clearly where the bulk of our work continues." The LowComDom Online Dictionary in its incomplete form is already available. The company will continue to add words daily rather then waiting for a major revision.
LowComDom was founded in 1985 by Pondwater, who found a bag of money behind a restaurant in San Francisco's "Little Italy" and used the money to stage his first performance. The rightful owners of the money sued Pondwater and settled out of court, agreeing to accept two of Pondwater's fingers in exchange for the cash. Pondwater went on to become a genius of Octal Mathematics. Barling joined LowComDom in September 1995 when the company acquired Da Joke List from him. During the remainder of 1995, Da Joke List was upgraded to add better automation and stability.
