A railroad magnate took a dollar-a-year job as the head of a government committee to oversee train safety. He attached his private car to the end of a line in the Northwest that was noted for its disregard of speed regulations.
In the middle of the night, the railroad magnate was awakened by the motion of his speeding car. He rushed forward to the first car and said to the engineer, "How fast were you going ten minutes ago?"
The engineer said, "Forty-five, like it says in the regs."
The railroad magnate said, "The private indicator in my car said that you were going seventy."
The engineer said, "No kidding? I never saw you pass me!"
