Film Review - Natural Born Killers
Talk about your cinematic triumph that says nothing...
Natural Born Killers is an over-rated yarn about society's misfits. It's wonderfully shot with layer upon layer of imagery, and a great sound track. But just because a film maker wraps his message up in a great package, doesn't mean the message itself is worth your time, money, or brain cells.
The message is that mass murderers are victims. They are products of child abuse, and therefore don't need to follow the rules of society. It's not their fault. Daddy did horrible things to them when they were little. This is a load of crap.
The film even goes on to claim that we the public would worship mass killers. Funny, I don't see people worshipping the Virginia snipers. I see people relieved that these two low-lifes are locked up.
Film Maker Oliver Stone is wrong. We don't worship the mass murderer. We worship the celebrity. We knew O.J. long before his trial. The fact that he was tried for murder increased our interest in some one we already knew.
The film also paints a picture that all journalists work for tabloid publications. I'm pretty critical of the sometimes sad state of journalism these days, but Stone's picture is too skewed. I'm not sure what society he lives in, but mine isn't this sick.
