 Film Review - XXX

Wow! Now here's a movie that delivered on its promise!

XXX (pronounced Triple-X) is nothing less that the theft of the James Bond franchise. Actually XXX is the antithesis of Bond. Where Bond is clean cut, XXX isn't; where Bond is just doing a job, it's personal with XXX. He's our extreme sports enthusiast, anti-establishment, bad boy at the NSA. So unless you think skateboarding is a crime, you're going to love this ride!

As we all heard the Soviet Union broke up. A few Soviet operatives decided they didn't want to be tossed onto the scrap heap and broke out on their own. They do what they want to whom ever they want. They are anarchists who have decided that poisoning most of the world would be a pretty neat idea. If you think about it, this isn't that far off from some of the Bond villains' plots.

Our hero, XXX, is snatched up by the government after he steals a Senator's Corvette and drives it off a bridge while video taping the entire incident. XXX has no love for our own government, he refuses to co-operate, but every test he is put through proves he is the perfect operative. Like it or not, he's working for Uncle Sam.

The rest of the movie is XXX disobeying orders and explosions. We find that he is a very intelligent person who finds the suits just too restricting. The finale is a real kicker worthy of a Bond film.

As I said, this is a theft of franchise (there's even equivalent characters for Q and M). As James Bond has become very long in the tooth, XXX refreshes the spy movie. I'm not saying this is a reality film, but it also isn't just more of the same either. The twentieth Bond film is about to be released. Truth is, I'm more interested in seeing the second XXX film.

Slight Suction!
