Film Review - X-Men 2: X-Men United
Wow! This is far better than I expected!
X-Men 2: X-Men United is far superior to the original. It addresses many of my complaints about X-Men. In this film, the characters stop acting like weirdos and start acting like people.
The back story for Wolverine finally gets told front to back. Rogue learns how to deal with her mutation. Older mutants take on a real leadership teaching the young to not abuse the non-mutants. There is a central theme of different people needing to learn to live together.
The new villain is the man who "built" Wolverine. He has come to hate his creation. So the villain from the last film, teams up with the good guys. It sort so feels like the Islamic saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
This film is more complex, and much more satisfying. It is what the first film should have been. Don't get me wrong, it's still a shallow comic book brought to the screen. But this time when I left the theater, I didn't feel like there was something missing. I'll buy that for non-cerebral entertainment.
