Film Review - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Plllllleeease! Not the first melding of cartoon and live action, but it is the best full-length movie of this type. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a pure fun movie. It doesn't pretend to make a big social statement. It's one of those "what if" movies.
What if cartoons were real and they had their own little Toon Town? And what if a Toon were accused of murder? There's your plot. Not much, but it's the characters that make this film.
Truckload after truckload of cartoon favorites from the '30s inhabit this world. This film is true to each one of them, but it's Roger who is the showcase. Roger is the wacky love-sick buffoon who keeps us laughing no matter how bad things are. To Roger, if there's nothing to laugh about, what's the point?
As the craft of filmmaking goes, there's no higher achievement than the par of work being done here. This is a great movie for the family that you can watch over and over.
