I must start by stating for the record that I am a Trekkie. I have been from a very young age. But after seeing Trekkies, I feel like a very "normal" human being. OK, I had the toys and could recite the dialogue from memory, but then I grew up and broadened my horizons. Trekkies is largely about the people who didn't.

From the dentist whose office is decorated entirely with Star Trek memorabilia and whose office staff is required to wear Star Trek costumes, to the woman who was a Whitewater juror and insisted on wearing her Star Fleet Lt. Commander uniform to the trial, Trekkies is about people who have given their life to the worship of Star Trek.

Trekkies is a documentary that cuts between the anecdotes of the actors and producers of the many Star Trek shows and interviews with the fans about their personal spin on life. The anecdotes are interesting, but when we meet the fans, I tended to want to hit fast-forward. The fans just aren't interesting for that long. Trekkies would probably have been better with a half hour cut from it. Obviously you can't have a documentary about Star Trek fans without including them, but 90 minutes? No, this really just drags.

Remote Control on Fast Forward, Mr. Sulu! This baby needs to kick in the warp drive!
