Film Review - This Island Earth

Oh, what an incredibly bad movie. This Island Earth comes from an era where many science fiction films were overly concerned about the hardware of the film rather than the ideas the story could explore. I'm afraid this film falls into the same trap.

The story concerns a brilliant scientist (Rex Reason), who is recruited by a strange organization in Georgia. Nothing ever fits in this institute. When the scientist and his companions attempt to escape, they are taken aboard a flying saucer and sent to another world, the planet who created the institute.

On the voyage we are told all about their technology, and the war they are fighting. Turns out their planet is minutes away from being destroyed. Once there, we watch the planet get hammered, and the humans escape.

The film is a waste of time. It makes no great statements, it is boring, and it is a waste of potential. There is so much that could have been done with this movie. But instead, we have to look at hardware.

Wait until this film is on TV, then find something else to watch.

Sucks and Blows!
