The Thin Red Line is the best photographed bad movie I have ever seen. I mean, every shot is a thing of wonder. It's a shame the rest of the movie sucks so much.

The culprits are both the screenwriter and the editor. This anti-war, anti-American film is three reels too long. It demonstrates that war is a truly horrible experience. But it drones on and on. Just when you think the film will wrap up, it drones on more. You just wish to hell the damn film would end.

As I said, the film is anti-war, but it is also anti-American. This revisionist history shows only Americans performing acts of brutality. The Japanese are shown in a more gentle light, almost merciful. Come on, folks, reality check: the Japanese did some pretty horrible things during the war. How about some balance here?

Stay away from this film. Go see Saving Private Ryan if you have the itch for WWII.
