Film Review - Showtime

Wow! This was insanely funny! Who ever cast this picture is a genius.

Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy are the perfect comedy team. Each plays a role as you would expect them to; De Niro is a serious die hard cop, Murphy is off the wall silly. We've seen them do these roles before. But juxtaposed against each other, you get great comedy.

The plot is over the top, but in this day and age, you could see someone trying to do it. A television producer discovers a real life Dirty Harry. She wants to do a reality show around him. But television being television, she needs to change a few things. She even hires William Shatner as a consultant to teach the cops how to be TV cops. It's nice to see Shatner has a new career being a parody of himself.

This is a formula cop movie. The serious cop will become a little more funny. The funny cop will become a little more serious. The twist are all the TV people. Having worked in that business, I can see people I knew in these characters, and at the same time, they are very over the top.

The group I was in laughed watching this film. In my book, that's a successful comedy.

Slight Suction!
