Film Review - Prince of Egypt, The

It's a bold statement, but it will cost DreamWorks SKG a pretty penny. The Prince of Egypt is a masterpiece of animation that raises the bar on Disney.

Telling the ancient story of Exodus, The Prince of Egypt begins with a disclaimer admitting it was going to take some license for the purpose of art. This honesty up front is another slap in Disney's face, who has gutted great stories such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocahontas without acknowledgement.

The animation is the thing that will blow you away. Where Disney has been advancing the art of animation steadily, yet unevenly, DreamWorks has moved to the top notch consistently from stem to stern. This has made the film extremely expensive. Since DreamWorks didn't do a Happy Meal deal (was this a religious decision?) The Prince of Egypt has failed to bring children into the theaters. The film does appeal more to adults -- after you get them into the movie house. But getting adults to buy a cartoon ticket without a child is very difficult.

The Prince of Egypt is very worth your time and money, with or without a child.

No Suction!
