Film Review - Peep Show

There's a lot to be said for keeping a film short, sweet, and to the point. That's exactly what film maker Charlie Call has done with Peep Show.

This nine minute file reverses the gender roles about peep shows. A woman, very uneasy about what she is doing enters the theatre, pays her admission, and heads for the booth. There's a money slot and push buttons with different denominations next to them. As the woman adds money and works her way from the least expensive peep show to the most expensive, two men on the other side of the glass act out her fantasies. No, not sexual, men talking about how they pulled over to ask for directions at the urging of their wives. Men falling in love, etc.

The woman is getting more and more turned on. Her clothes are becoming more and more disheveled, until she pays for the most expensive peep show. The shade on the glass opens and ... now that would be telling. It's only nine minutes long. I can't say anymore.

This is a very well thought out short with three sets and a handful of actors. The entire concept from start to finish works. So where can you see this film? Keep and eye out at the film festivals. Peep Show has won more awards than it has minutes on screen. If you can't make it to a film fest, keep an eye out on one of the HBO channels. It pops up as filler between films that wish they were this good.
