Film Review - Net, The

Time to switch off reality! Sandra's on The Net! Yes, you might be thinking that I'm slamming this picture because of the technical inaccuracies, but nope, that's not it. I'm used to Hollywood getting technology wrong to cinematically enhance a film. That's not a problem.

Sandra Bullock plays a computer professional who works at home in Los Angeles for a Silicon Valley company. Not a problem. Telecommuting is coming into its own. She and her Internet geek friends stumble upon this pi symbol on the bottom of a Web page. When accessed you can find out all sorts of private data. OK, not a reality. I did say Hollywood does do this to make movies exciting. Not a problem.

The people who made the pi symbol have found out everything about Sandra and have started screwing with her identity. Reality still on hold. It took me a long time just to find out who Sandra's agent is and a mailing address. Not a problem.

The problem is that Sandra leads a sedentary life in front of the computer all day for work. She gets up at 6 when the pizza man delivers dinner, and then goes back to the computer all night long to talk with her little geek friends in Internet Relay Chat. Why is this a problem? Because she finally takes a vacation to Mexico and is laying on the beach with a body right out of the Victoria's Secret catalog!

C'mon Sandra! Live the part! Robert DeNiro did in Raging Bull, at one point gaining 50 pounds to be in character. I think you could do at least the same, and that is why you won't win an Oscar® this year!
