Film Review - Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, The

Oh ... My ... God! This Sucks! They should have burned this film along with Joan of Arc!

The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc is a long boring film that leaves you wondering why Director Luc Besson thought this was so damned important to waste his time doing this.

The film revolves around Joan, and young girl who witnesses her sister's death and rape (in that order) at the hands of English invaders. Joan grows up and decides that God is talking to her. God apparently wants the English out of France and has decided that Joan is just the girl he's looking for.

Joan (Milla Jovovich) is portrayed as irrational, angry, and argumentative. There's no compelling reason for the audience to like her. Quite frankly, you get the impression that she is nuts. That's nice but do we need 150 minutes of this?

The only redeeming performance in the film is Dustin Hoffman as Joan's Conscience. Hoffman plays it low key, just enough to get the point across. Everyone else is over the top.

The battles are the only part of the film where the audience wakes up for a few minutes. But even they aren't worth the effort. This is just a disaster of a film. You really don't want to blow your time or money on this horrible movie.

Sucks and Blows!
