Here was an unexpected surprise. We were doing a Sutherland filmfest one weekend, and this little gem got tossed into the Donald pile.

Hollow Point is cops and robbers with a twist. The cops are from two different government agencies who are trying to outdo each other for this bust. The agency which recovers the drug money gets to keep it. (This can be very good for your career.)

Tia Carrere is FBI. In the opening scene, she is being married to get close to the groom's father, who is the target of the bust. (Imaging your bride whipping out a gun and arresting your father in the middle of the ceremony.) Everything goes to hell and it's non-stop chase and dirty tricks from then on.

Thomas Ian Griffith is DEA and is Carrere's competition. He'll do anything, from shooting out her tires to getting her a lesbian "date" in a bar of ill repute, to keep her one step behind him. (By now, those at home who watch a lot of movies have figured out that there's a little romantic tension between them.)

What about Donald?

Sutherland is an assassin who is bored. He's extremely good at what he does and is almost undetectable. He's been doing this for years and needs a little excitement in his life. He joins up with the Feds when his boss tries to rub him out. He's unpredictable, funny, and has the best lines.

John Lithgow is the Evil Bad Guy. He has this wonderful rationalization that if he does one thing good, he can do one thing evil, they cancel each other out. It's a joy to watch Lithgow in action.

God help the United States if this is how law enforcement is performed. It makes for a fun romp after a tough day.
