Film Review - Highlander: Endgame

Wait a second! I already went to this movie! It was called Highlander. But last time it was much better.

Yes, they're back, those hordes of barbarians rattling their sabres itching to get your money! I speak of none other than the Sequel Spinners. That tribe of Hollywood Milkmen who will regurgitate sequels until the box office cow dries up.

The first Highlander was a masterpiece of writing along with great film craft. It was fun to watch (especially the transitions between times). Highlander 2 was a joke. It the hero had won the big game in the first film, and so now we got to see what he did with his prize. We find that he screwed up the earth with it. Finally, we learn that all the immortals were really from another planet. This made no sense at all.

Highlander 3 I skipped. It was about finding one more immortal. This of course makes no sense because the hero has already won the prize, and you can't win the prize if there are any other immortals.

So now we're up to number 4. Hmmm, all the immortals are still alive. They are still playing the game. It's as if none of the other films were made. And in this version the hero who won last time doesn't win, another hero does.

I'm calling a fifteen yard penalty for roughing the audience. This is a really poor re-make of the first film. The sad reality is that none of the sequels work because they don't embrace that the original had a real ending.

In the end, there can be only one immortal. And it looks like there should have been only one movie.

Sucks and Blows!
