This was a pleasant surprise! Demi Moore's last two flicks were abominations. G.I. Jane has a core story that is simple, yet true to itself, and a back drop that keeps your interest.

Moore plays a Naval officer who becomes the first woman to take the Navy Seal training. This comes about because of political wrangling in the Senate. Moore pushes this simple story along by not being a pretty piece of fluff screaming about how bad men are. She's simply there trying to do her job.

If you've seen An Officer and a Gentleman you might be reminded of it during this film. The master sergeant is a hardnose who both physically and mentally abuses the trainees. But unlike the former film, Moore and this guy do end up beating the crap out of each other. He's an SOB, but he is not the villain. It's the politicians back in Washington who are the real bad guys. Let's not spoil the ending, but justice will be served in this film.

What will grab you is the backdrop. Most of us have never seen anything about the Navy Seal training. I can't tell you if this film portrays it true, but it is interesting to look at, and a marvel that people can train to endure such hardship and not complain about it.

Glad to see Demi has stopped beating up the audience.
