Film Review - Full Monty, The
Movies don't get much better than this. The Full Monty is a delightful film about a group of out-of-work men in Sheffield, England. The men used to work in a steel factory until it closed, and now have been unable to find work that provides a feeling of importance.
The story revolves around this group, but focuses primarily on a father who is behind on his child support payments. No money, no visitation rights. The group notices a huge number of women have lined up to see the Chippendale dancers. They decide perhaps they too can make money stripping. Now, we're not talking buff young men. Here lies much of the comedy.
The Full Monty delves into what makes these men tick. There are self-esteem issues all over these men, and the actors who play them are portraying the characters to a T. My date for the film is a person for whom English is a second language. Her comments were to the tune that the actors' body language were perfect for portraying the correct emotions. For her, this helped break through language barriers. The Full Monty is a film to see after you get tired of explosion films. It's one of the finest acted films I've ever seen.
