Film Review - First Man Into Space

Wow, I usually only see film this bad when I brush my teeth.

First Man Into Space is a late 1950's BEM movie about a test pilot who can't obey orders. He decides to fly his plane a little too close to space, and BANG, he turns into a blood-sucking bug-eyed-monster!

I honestly couldn't sit all the way through this horrible movie. Every character seemed to have a chip on their shoulder. The acting was very stilted, and the dialog an insult to the actors.

The strange part of the film is that they producer went to great lengths to get real test footage of rockets and even Chuck Yeager's plane in flight, but didn't stick around to learn the lingo of test pilots. These guys got it so wrong, they have the US Navy doing the test flights and not the Air Force.

Maybe forty years ago when this was released it played mostly at "passion-pit" drive ins where no one was really looking at the screen. Today, this is a film that can me shown to first year film students as an example of what not to make.

Sucks and Blows!
