Film Review - Down Periscope
Down Periscope! Down Brain Cells! Down Intelligence! Dive, dive, dive!
Look! It's McHale's Navy Submerges the PT-73! If you can put your brain on hold (i.e. drink a lot before watching this) it might make sense. Otherwise we have Delta House Goes to Sea.
Yup, screwball comedy, but not smart screwball. Silly fraternity stuff like shrinking the female officer's uniforms so they don't fit. A tattoo on the captain's genitals that says, "Welcome Aboard!"
You know the Marx Brothers did screwball comedy that really had something to say about society; namely poking fun at the rich to cheer up the poor during the Depression. Down Periscope could have been such a film, but it says absolutely nothing. It's almost a complete waste of your time. You might get a snicker or two out of this, but don't expect to be rolling on the floor.
