Sometimes a movie comes along that is so good, you have a hard time trying to figure out where to begin the review. I really didn't know much about the film before seeing it. I had heard the Catholic Church picketed Dogma at the Toronto Film Fest. Any time organized religion doesn't want you to see a film, there's usually something worth seeing. Dogma went to the top of of my "must see" films.

This is one of the most amazing films I have ever seen! There are more ideas in this film than in a summer load of the usual bubblegum. We've got a devoutly faithful Catholic who is beginning to have a loss of faith. She ends up on a crusade to save creation. Along the journey she comes upon the 13th apostle (Chris Rock), Silent Bob and his sidekick Jay, and some demons.

The twist to this film is the humor inspired while exploring the sometimes self-canceling Catholic dogma. There is much I will not mention, for fear of spoiling the moments that really hit you in the funny bone. Dogma is well written, tightly edited, and well acted. What you have to be able to put up with is the swearing. Jay's dialogue is a four-letter word, every other word. And of course, you have to be able to take this entire scenario as just something to laugh about. Believe me, this is funny. Even the disclaimer that appears before the film has four good laughs in it. This is worth the leap of faith some will have to take before viewing.
