Film Review - Craft, The

There's little that makes me happier than a movie that steps out of the normal Hollywood grinder, and still works. Here is such a film.

The Craft is about witchcraft, but rightfully so, not satanic worship. Four high school girls create a coven of witches. They study the craft and call upon the powers of the world to give them what they want. This is playful at first, then the power they have found becomes a seduction difficult to resist.

The real story here is about the difficulty of the high school years. Teens who don't feel accepted will look in unorthodox places for acceptance. These four find it in each other. They also find the self-respect we all at some time in our lives must search for.

As I mentioned earlier the powers of the earth they unleash put them in over their heads. Well, that's normal for teens. Take this witchcraft and substitute a job or student government or any number of things, you still have a solid story. Witchcraft is only a very effective hook. This film really works.
