Film Review - Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, The

I remember that when I was a kid I did certain activities with my father. One was watching Rocky and Bullwinkle on Saturday Mornings. What was so unusual was that my father was watching a cartoon at all, and was laughing. A lot of water has past under the bridge. Dad has pasted away, and I have those memories.

In Hollywood's quest to make all that's old new again, it has finally re-discovered the Moose and Squirrel. All updated and living in modern times, Rocky and Bullwinkle's lives since the 1960's haven't been so wonderful. In fact Frostbite Falls is all run down since the show went off the air.

Meanwhile in Pottsilvainia, Boris Badenov, Natasha Fatale, and Fearless Leader, shortly after the fall of the iron curtain, have dug their way to Hollywood and become real people. Once again, Fearless Leader aims to take over the US of A. Tune in next time for ...

Sorry, got carried away there.

The is a formula road picture. Rocky and Bullwinkle are recruited by an FBI agent to save the country. Along the way, there are hazardous adventures which usually are caused by Boris and Natasha trying to kill the Moose and Squirrel.

The innovation in the picture is that Rocky and Bullwinkle are still cartoons, but since they too are in the real world, they are rendered in three dimensions. What's stupid, is that Boris, Natasha, and Fearless Leader are played by real people. This bit doesn't work. The picture would have been better as a straight cartoon.

Otherwise we have the old Rocky and Bullwinkle. New century, same old gags. I didn't laugh as much as I remember my father in the 1960's. But it's a different era. Perhaps these corny groaners are just past their prime.

Jammed Pipe!
